From the 1st to the 12th of May the International School Gender-Sensitive Social Work: Education and Practice was held at a resort Volzhskie Dali. The school has been sponsored by Women Network Program of OSI and Joint European Project Enhancing Professional Social Work Education in Russia of TEMPUS/Tacis program of EU. More (In Russian)
14 March 2002, the deadline of the call for applications for the Summer School "Gender-Sensitive Social Work: Education and Practice"to be held in Saratov, 1-12 May 2002, sponsored by Women Network Program, Open Society Institute. Total number of applications is 78, including those from Samara, Volgograd, Krasnodar, Izhevsk, Arkhangelsk, Murmansk, Severodvinsk, Barnaul, Syktyvkar, Kazan, Kaluga, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, Saratov, StPetersburg, Moscow, Baku (Azerbaijan), Vilnius (Lithuania), Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), Islamabad (Pakistan) and Goteborg (Sweden).
March 2002, the teachers of Social Work Department, Elmira Naberushkina and Ella Chekanova have particiated in a working group meetings at Saratov Ministry of Labor and Social Development on the issue of urban environment for people with disabilities
Februrary 2002, the students of Master in Social Work program of the Department, Marina Ishchenko and Svetlana Shalneva have conducted an IREX-sponsored training for social work students on the issues of trafficking-in women.

November 2001, a new book by Elena Iarskaia-Smirnova has been published in Moscow by the publishing house INION RAN. The book is entitled "Clothes for Adam and Eve: essays on gender studies". This was an outreach publication EDU-ACTION project by Elena that has been sponsored by Civic Education Project.
On 19 October 2001, the Social Work program at SSTU celebrated a 10 years anniversary. The jubilee conference engaged into a discussion and assessment of the years passed all people interested in this program: professors and students, practitioners and graduates of different cohorts. The conference was followed by a concert and tea. This activity was organized by Elena, her colleagues, post-grads and doctoral fellows together with students of the Department. Danilo Leonardi sent a greeting message which was published in a special issue of the university newspaper, along with articles and letters of other colleagues and friends. Dr.Diane Wysocki, Director of Women's Studies Center, University of Nebraska, Kearney (USA) has presented a speach on social work and women studies at this conference. She expressed interest in collaborative relations with the Department of Social Anthropology and Social Work, Center for Social Policy and Gender Studies at SSTU.
11-13 September 2001, students of social work program have been working as volunteers at the First Inter-regional Sport Competition for children with motor impairments. The event was held in Saratov. Students made good friends with children.
September 2001, a TV program on special and inclusive education was prepared by teachers of Social Anthropology and Social Work Department and shown on the local TV channel.
From 2nd to 13th of June 2001. In 2001 the Social Work programme at Saratov State Technical University celebrates 10 years anniversary. The Department of Social Anthropology and Social Work has hosted on the 2nd-13th June 2001 an International Summer School devoted to this anniversary. The School Social Work. The 7th of March 2001. A scholarly seminar devoted to the gendered festivals in Russia was arranged by the Center of Gender Studies at the Department. Two presentations: Eugenia Koznova (a 3rd year student of Social Anthropology program) 23rd of February the Day of Fatherlands Defender or the Day of Men? and Galina Karpova (a teacher of the Department) Privatization of the Political: public discourse and practices of consumption in celebrating International Womens Day in Russia (1925-2001) were followed by a discussion and tea.
The 6th of March 2001. The students of social work and social anthropology programs have presented a first performance of their Theater-Forum. A performance was entitled Different Caps to paraphrase a famous tale by the French author Charles Perrot The Red Cap and it was devoted to the International Womens Day. The audience did not just observe a play, but also actively took part in resolving gendered problems of the characters. The performance has ended with a vivid discussion which addressed the main principle of theater-forum: participation instead of observing!
February-March 2001 - Joshua Moses and Jenea Westover have come several times to teach participatory action research and peer-education concept for the social anthropology students. A training session was held on the 1st of March concerning the action research into contemporary social problems of Saratov region. This session was arranged for a mixed audience: students of Social Anthropology and Social Work programs as well as students of Further Qualification Program in Social Work.

17-18 of Nov. 2000 Saratov State Technical University, Department of Social Work and Social Anthropology CIVIC EDUCATION PROJECT (CEP) is pleased to announce"Anthropology in theory and in practice" a series of meetings with Professor of anthropology Barbara Grũnenfelder-Elliker (Ph.D) -- C.E.P Visiting Lecturer at Smolny College - St. Petersburg State University has met with students of the Department of Social Work and Social Anthropology at SSTU on Friday, 17th November 13.00-16.00 and Saturday, 18th November 11.00-15.00 to talk on theories and methods as well as her field research experience as a social anthropologist. Each meeting had two parts: lecture and discussion over tea with pies and cookies made by the students.
8 Nov. 2000 Joshua Moses, the CEP visiting lecturer from USA at Saratov Academy of Public Administration presented an open lecture for the graduate students and teachers of the Department of Social Antropology and Social Work at Saratov State Technical University. The title of the lecture - 'Participatory Action Research'.
20 Oct. 2000 We started a program of electronic publications related to the activity of our project: see a paper by Elena Iarskaia-Smirnova.
